Story[]
Act I[]
In 1996, Metatron, an Argoan of power with an understanding of dark magic, forged the Seal of Metatron to further channel the magic. With his relic, Metatron used its power to help his people make several technological breakthroughs that he believed would bring peace between the Argoans of power and the powerless Argoans. However, after much debate with the Argoan government, Metatron came to understand that the Seal was too much of a potent threat to keep around, especially if it ever fell into the wrong hands. Due to the relic's power however, Metatron advised against its destruction, and instead proposed it be kept within a secure location that he himself would safeguard. The Argoan government accepted Metatron's proposal, and constructed a special vault within Argo's core to Metatron's specifications that he would protect.
Some time later, Metatron was approached by Korin Zel-Dor and several members of the Order, all of whom were powerless Argoans. Korin demanded that Metatron relinquished his Seal to him and claimed that he would use it to bring peace to the planet much like how Metatron intended it to be used. Metatron refused his request, though Korin attempted to convince him to join his cause by claiming that the Argoan government did not trust him or his powers, suggesting that the government's willingness to comply with Metatron's plan was to ensure Metatron and his dark magic did not threaten their positions of power. Metatron briefly pondered over this possibility, but ultimately denied Korin and his claims, explaining that, regardless of who he stood with, the Seal's magic was too dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced, with Metatron himself admitting that he did not fully grasp the sheer power it held.
To Metatron's confusion, Korin merely laughed at his claim and promptly turned to his followers, saying that Metatron, an Argoan of power, did not trust the powerless to handle the Seal. Metatron detested Korin's claims and tried to explain to Korin's followers that Korin was twisting his words, though the followers did not believe Metatron. Korin ordered his followers to restrain Metatron, forcing Metatron to try and defend himself as he was attacked by numerous Order members. Simultaneously, Korin entered the vault and managed to retrieve the Seal of Metatron from within. Korin stepped outside just as Metatron was brought to his knees, who pled for Korin to listen to what he was saying. Korin ignored Metatron, and told his followers that today marked the first step in taking what was rightfully theirs. With that, Korin unleashed a blast of dark magic from the Seal at Metatron, destroying him.
Act II[]
24 years later on the night of May 10th, 2020, Heather Mason jerked up from bed in a panic, alerting her roommate Lena Oxton. Lena questioned Heather what was wrong, and Heather explained that she heard an ominous voice in her head calling out her name, something that filled her with absolute dread. Lena got out of bed and walked over to Heather to comfort her as Heather remarked that she had been having strange dreams lately after "Abigail" went missing, commenting that since then she's been feeling more and more unwell.
Lena asked Heather she believed it was something serious and asked if she should call up the nurse's office, though Heather remarked that it was likely a mere common cold and told Lena that she shouldn't worry too much. Concerned, Lena reminded Heather that she wasn't human, suggesting that a common cold to her was likely even worse for a human given Heather's unique physiology and pled with Heather to get it checked out. Heather agreed with Lena and told her that if she was still feeling unwell by tomorrow, then she would go get it checked out. Though still worried, Lena accepted Heather's answer and returned to her bed and wished Heather good night. Heather reciprocated and went back to sleep while Lena stared at her, worried about her health and condition.
The following morning, the two girls walked to their first class together when Heather suddenly froze up, confusing Lena. Heather started to profusely sweat as she saw a dark, shadowy silhouette staring at her in the distance that made her feel physically weak and exhausted. Heather suddenly jerked up and immediately began sprinting toward the shadowy figure with super speed, much to Lena's shock as she physically couldn't see what Heather was seeing. Heather arrived at a secluded area on the campus grounds, where she suddenly fell to her knees and began clentching her head. Heather snapped back to reality and looked up to see that the shadowy figure was now in front of her, taking on a more humanoid appearance.
Heather questioned the figure what it wanted as she shivered in pain, who revealed that it wanted to no longer suffer and instead live as the figure finally morphed into Metatron. Metatron introduced himself, claiming that he had been with Heather since the very beginning, watching over everything that had happened in her life. Just as Heather questioned what he meant by that, Lena caught up to her, and when Heather looked back to face Metatron, he was no longer there. Heather tried to get up and chase after Metatron, but she collapsed back onto the ground. Lena told Heather that she was bringing her back to the dorm and calling the nurse's office, and hoisted Heather onto her shoulders to carry her back. Heather looked up and saw Metatron staring at her as Lena carried her away, though she passed out before she could say or do anything.
Back at the dorm, Heather laid in her bed as Lena called the school office in the other room to inform them that Heather had fallen sick. Heather slowly opened her eyes and found Metatron at her side, scaring her. Metatron told Heather not to worry and calmly assured her that he had the answers she sought, revealing that he would explain everything once she met him "in the flesh" at a remote location of her choice. Completely enthralled by his presence, Heather remarked that there was an old building just off of the campus that would work, and Metatron smiled, saying that he would be waiting for her there at nightfall.
Metatron disappeared just as Lena walked in to check on Heather, who informed her that the nurse was going to stop by in a little bit to check on her condition. Lena checked Heather's temperature and was alarmed to find that she had an extremely high fever. Heather remarked that she'd been through worse and sluggishly got out of bed to use the restroom. Lena somberly told Heather that she was deeply worried for her and that she didn't want to lose her if it got to that point, though Heather reassured her that everything was going to be fine. Lena silently watched with dismay as Heather staggered into the restroom, where she could audibly be heard vomiting into the toilet.
Act III[]
That night, after the nurse came by and gave Lena approval to stay with Heather and report her conditions to the front office if they worsened, Heather and Lena laid in their beds seemingly asleep when Heather got up, mustering enough strength to get out of bed and silently leave the dorm. However, Lena had been secretly awake to observe Heather, and slowly trailed behind her to see where she was going. Heather arrived at the abandoned rundown building just down the street from the school campus, and called out Metatron's name in anguish. Lena arrived shortly after, but hid from sight to see what Heather was doing.
From Heather's perspective, Metatron materialized in front of her, commenting that she was strong for a clone on the brink of collapse. Heather weakly asked what he was referring to, and Metatron finally revealed how he survived his death at the hands of Korin decades ago by allowing his soul to become one with the dark magic he manipulated, the very same magic used to help birth Heather. Metatron explained that he transferred his soul into Heather's own soul when she was being created with the Seal of Metatron, rooting itself in there so he would one day siphon her strength to rebuild his own body at the cost of her own existence. Heather then realized that Metatron was responsible for her condition and demanded he stop, which Metatron claimed that he would once he "returned".
At that moment, Heather's physical form started to destabilize as she screamed in pain, allowing Metatron to begin generating a physical form in the real world. Metatron announced that Korin took everything from him all those years ago, and remarked that it was fitting that he now could take away what Korin once considered everything. Lena, who was now able to see Metatron, called out to Heather, alerting her and Metatron to her presence. Metatron turned his attention to Lena and prepared to attack her, though Heather screamed out in fury and fired a beam of heat vision at Metatron, who dodged the attack. The beam triggered a fire in the old building, which slowly started to spread around the three. Heather then fell to the ground, having become too weak to continue attacking, and ordered Lena to escape while she could, though Lena refused to leave her friend to die.
Metatron slowly approached Lena as he gained more and more of a physical presence and mocked her decision to stay, remarking that Heather was far beyond saving as her soul's energy was nearly spent to rebuild his own as Metatron prepared to channel an orb of dark magic to kill Lena with. Metatron's words gave Heather an idea, and as Metatron prepared to kill Lena, he let out a sudden and sharp gasp. Metatron turned to face Heather, who had removed her own soul using her intangibility and soul removal powers. Metatron was horrifed that Heather would go to such lengths to kill him, and Heather remarked that she would do anything to protect her friends before crushing her own soul, destroying it. Metatron howled in anger as he quickly faded away, leaving Lena to rush to Heather's aid as her physical form continued to lose shape.
Lena began to cry for Heather, who reassured her that everything was going to be okay. Lena denied Heather's claim, saying that there had to be a way to save her. Heather somberly told Lena that without a soul or something else to anchor her physical form, she would be destroyed. This gave Lena an idea, and suggested that Heather's remaining presence fuse with Lena's body, allowing her to share her soul with her. Surprised, Heather explained that by doing so, their minds would also fuse and they would be one person, unable to think individually. Lena remarked that she didn't care as long as it meant that Heather would survive in some way.
Heather questioned why Lena would go to such lengths to save her if it meant sacrificing her individuality, though Lena remarked that she would do anything to save her closest friend, much like how Heather intended to do the same. Knowing Lena's mind was made up, Heather agreed to Lena's plan and promptly leeched onto her arm, causing Heather's physical form to finally collapse and for Lena to black out as Heather's essence began to combine with her body. Inside Lena's mind, Heather and Lena appeared as apparitions and smiled to one another. The two then shared a hug as their apparitions fused with one another, creating a bright light.
Epilogue[]
Back in the real world, the newly-born fusion of Heather and Lena laid unconscious as the fire closed in. At that moment, a Nexus portal opened and Sophia stepped out, remarking that she couldn't let such a noble act be wasted. Sophia then dragged the fusion through the portal with her, closing it just as the fire fully engulfed the building. Not long after, the fusion awoke to find herself laying in bed at a college dorm in Midnight City. The fusion looked around to find Marina Dawson and Casey Dawson tending after her.
Marina asked how she was feeling, and the fusion remarked that she felt good as she briefly levitated over the bed. The fusion quickly landed back onto the bed with an embarrassed look, and Casey remarked that Jessika told them that this would happen. Marina smiled and asked what the fusion's name was. After a quick thought, the fusion responded that her name was Helena Maxton. Marina and Casey both smiled and introduced themselves to Helena, remarking they they had a lot to show her as she peered out of the window to see the futuristic city in the distance.
