“Yes—Crossover Universe will be a thing. And no—it will not be a crossover between previous installments of Call of Duty. It will feature characters and organizations from all Call of Duty games published by Morningwood Arts. The story will revolve around a single plot, bringing all our characters together.”
―Anakin Nakamura on Call of Duty: Crossover Universe

Call of Duty: Crossover Universe is a first-person shooter video game under development by Nakamura Interactive, Morningwood Studios, Tachibana Games, Frost Games, and will be published by Morningwood Arts for the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Neo, and Windows PC. Anakin Nakamura has said that the game will be released on November 23rd, 2024.

Development[]

According to Anakin Nakamura's Twitter, the game was in pre-development stages by the time Call of Duty: Eclipse Warfare IV was finished, being under development for seven years. At E3 2022, Anakin Nakamura revealed Crossover Universe as "the ultimate experience" of Morningwood Arts' Call of Duty games.

On July 24th, 2018, Anakin Nakamura revealed that in Multiplayer, there will be "hero characters" with abilities not available for regular soldiers, in a similar matter to EA's Star Wars Battlefront II.

On October 3rd, 2018, Frost Games confirmed that they would be developing a Battle Royale mode for the game. This was backed up by Anakin Nakamura, CEO at Morningwood Arts and Nakamura Interactive as well as design director on the project. Following the news of a crossover, the term "Morningwood Multiverse" was used for all the Call of Duty games published by Morningwood Arts since their acquisition of the series back in 2012.

He also stated on August 31st, 2022 that Nakamura Interactive were finished with Call of Duty: Extinction. When asked about the involvement of Morningwood Studios, " Morningwood Studios are actively researching the campaign's aspects as well as reviewing previous Call of Duty installments published by Morningwood Arts" he told IGN in an interview.

Campaign[]

The Campaign revolves around the Hive creator and leader Lord Kar'auk who has awakened from his eternal sleep to reclaim the Earth, and revive the Hive Empire while his brother Kar'zal believes humanity to be the rightful owners of Earth, planning to prevent him from completing his mission, and brings together a group of heroes and soldiers from different parallel universes, gaining access to said universes through the Nexus, an interdimensional realm created by the Father. To conquer the Earth, Kar'auk sends seven of his most trusted Graveminds into different periods of time, preventing the birth of the parents who he saw as potential threats, including the founders of the Fallen Brotherhood.

Multiplayer[]

The Multiplayer will be developed by Frost Games. One of the modes include a Battle Royale mode.

Expansions[]

Confirmed by Anakin Nakamura, Call of Duty: Crossover Universe will feature expansion packs that expand the story, multiplayer, adding in new content with each release. He also confirmed that there will be four expansions post-launch, and that each expansion will contain an additional Act of campaign missions, sometimes two Acts.
