Creepers were a failed experiment conducted by Edward Richtofen in secret. Richtofen "borrowed" some of the corpses Maxis was using to create the zombies and mutated them. This resulted in a tall, four-legged, green zombie. When Richtofen went towards them, the Creepers turned to him and ultimately, Richtofen had to kill them and he abandoned the project.

Remember When...[]
Creepers first appear after Round 10 as green, mutated creatures and walk in a slow, crouching fashion. This makes the Creepers easy to kill, despite being two times as strong as normal zombies and they will explode at a certain distance away from the player. As rounds progress, Creepers will begin sprinting at the players and attempt to run into the players. If the Creeper is successful at this, it will explode, downing the player. It is recommended to buy PhD Flopper.

A Advanced Creeper.
In Wahnsinnig der Kirche, a new form of Creepers appear along side their original form after Round 15. These new creepers are called, Advanced Creepers or Creeper Bosses. These new creepers are tan and have two arms and two legs, resembling more like a human. Creeper Bosses have the ability to shoot frost on the player to slow them down as well as having the ability to hit the players and exploding next to them. They also have the ability to destroy utilities, such as the Mystery Box and the Pack-a-Punch Machine. Once a utility is destroyed the player has the ability to repair it (except for the Mystery Box as it will teleport to another location.)
Dragon's End[]
Creepers reappear in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II map Dragon's End. In the map, they spawn alongside other zombies on any round after round 10. The amount of Creepers increase each round, starting at five and adding two more each round. The "weapon" Creepers use is called "Creep", and is basically a moving Claymore with a longer charging time and larger explosion. This downs the player(s) in one hit (if near) or in two hits (splash damage). The "zombie" acts the same as it does in previous maps, and uses a Kamikaze-like tactic to try and down players.
