The Cursed Realm was a realm designed to act as an eternal prison for the most wicked of souls to ever exist across the Nexus.
Background[]
Nictis' Rule[]
At some point in time, the Cursed Realm, along with its ruler Nictis, came into existence thanks to the dark energies of the Aether. Over the years, the Cursed Realm would serve as an eternal prison for the most wicked of souls should they find their way to the realm, where Nictis would oversee their imprisonment. Years later, Nictis would come to find the Soul Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones, within the Cursed Realm, and harnessed it powers to forge the Mask of Nictis, a device capable of controlling other souls while turning them into hideous monsters bound the wearer's bidding.
Sometime later, whilst in a state of lonliness, Nictis created a daughter which he named Samantha. However, seeing that the Cursed Realm was unfit for his daughter to live in, Nictis sent her to Earth-31218 as a baby, where she was found and adopted by Group 935 leader Ludvig Maxis to give her the proper life she deserved to live. In time however, Nictis would grow to miss his daughter, reflecting if he truly made the right decision. To see the answer for himself, Nictis crafted the Summoning Key out of the Soul Stone; using its powers, Nictis attempted to leave the Cursed Realm.
However, Nictis would become bonded to the Soul Stone after failing to fully understand its powers and capabilities, imprisoning him within it as the Summoning Key became lost through the cosmos. Furthermore, Nictis's mask was seperated from him during this, and it would up landing in Northern Alaska, where it became encased within the icy tundra for an unknown length of time.
Falling Apart[]
Several years later, the soul of Edward Richtofen, Ludvig's former second-in-command, would find its way to the Cursed Realm following a sudden heart attack caused by exposure to the energy of an unfinished teleporter he used to dispose of his superior. Making use of the dimension's unique properties, Richtofen used his imprisonment in the realm as a means of preserving himself for years to come; through this however, Richtofen would slowly be driven mad as a result of his solitude.
However, after several decades without Nictis to maintain the realm, it would slowly fall apart and crumble, causing its inhabitants to be dispersed across the Ethereal Divide and the various universes of the Roach Chronicles multiverse. Whilst in a state of limbo drifting across the Ethereal Divide outside Earth-61017, Richtofen would be telepathically contacted by Gruntijackal, who made use of his fractured state to brainwash him to his cause. Gruntijackal then instructed Richtofen to travel to Earth-61017 to acquire the Yin Blade, as its dark magic could grant Richtofen's mortal soul a physical form to carry out Gruntijackal's plans.
Legacy[]
Following the destruction of the Soul Stone after it was released from the Summoning Key, Nictis was freed from captivity. Learning of what became of his home, Nictis made it his mission to find both his daughter and the means of creating a new Cursed Realm to rule.
