- “Gigabyte is the result of Omnitron rebuilding what was left of Roach into a perfect and loyal second-in-command. Recreating his flesh into metal and rewiring his brain, Omnitron programmed Gigabyte to become an "example". Gigabyte will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals, even going as far as destroying his former allies to prove his point.”
- ―Notebook Information
Gigabyte was the assimilated form Roach was transformed into by Omnitron following his capture. Gigabyte was programmed to serve Omnitron as his loyal second-in-command and the co-leader of the Robot Army; with his newfound allegiances, Gigabyte helped his master fulfill Project Manticore, culminating in the near-extinction of the human race.
Despite their victory, Gigabyte and Omnitron were later challenged and defeated by Umbra Ops after they escaped their banishment to the Fractured Realm, who utilized the Time Blade to defeat the two robots. Gigabyte's consciousness would be wiped from his body by the Reversal properties of the Time Blade and replaced by his original human consciousness prior to his assimilation.
Several months later, Gigabyte's consciousness was recreated within a reflection by the Grandmaster, who inducted him as a member of the Thirteen, ranking at number seven. Together with the rest of the Thirteen, Gigabyte participated in the Boss Rush Tournament, though he was ultimately defeated one last time.
Biography[]
Robot Army War[]
Creation[]
Following his capture at the hands of Omnitron after both were presumed deceased, Roach was taken to the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex, where Omnitron ruthlessly assimilated Roach into Gigabyte. Omnitron converted Gigabyte into a loyal second-in-command, who now shared many of his views and ideologies while retaining enhanced versions of Roach's own powers and abilities. With his newfound position, Gigabyte became the Robot Army's secondary commander.[1]
Battle of Seoul[]
Nearly two weeks following his creation, Gigabyte was deployed to Seoul, South Korea amidst the Robot Army's siege of the city, where he manned a Havoc Launcher alongside Omnitron to destroy Allied dropships that attempted to reach the ground. However, the launcher would eventually be disabled by Umbra Ops, who prepared to open the door leading into the launcher's cockpit. Before they could open the door themselves however, Gigabyte opened it first and immediately attacked the team, punching Chris Bennett down to the ground.
Gigabyte mockingly warned the heroes to flee while they still could, and the heroes immediately made the horrific realization that Gigabyte was none other than what remained of their friend Roach. Omnitron then exited the cockpit and attempted to shoot at the heroes with his grenade launcher while Gigabyte silently watched. After the heroes managed to evade the attack, Omnitron explained what he did with Roach to create Gigabyte, offering the heroes a chance to undergo the same procedure as Roach did and become his lieutenants in his army, or perish with the rest of humanity.
Defiantly, the heroes refused to join Omnitron, vowing to defeat him and save Roach. Gigabyte coldly responded that the heroes should run before effortlessly stomping into the ground with his leg, revealing a hidden timer buried in the ground counting down. Gigabyte explained that the timer was connected to a massive Scorpion dirty bomb within the city, while Omnitron remarked that Seoul and its inhabitants would serve as a prelude for what was to come worldwide. Horrified, Umbra Ops were forced to quickly flee as Omnitron and Gigabyte watched.
Within minutes, the Scorpion bomb detonated, releasing the nerve agent throughout the city, killing everyone apart from those who managed to escape in time, such as Umbra Ops. Gigabyte and the other members of the Robot Army remained unaffected by the gas, and the robots basked in the weapon's success. Gigabyte remarked to Omnitron that the time to pave way for the invasion was nearing fruition and suggested that they head to the command center for Project Manticore in Paris, France, which Omnitron agreed to.[1]
Humanity's Annihilation[]
Soon after the fall of Seoul, Gigabyte, along with Omnitron and the rest of the Robot Army, relocated to the Scorpion launch center at a fortification on and around the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Three days later, Gigabyte stood alongside Omnitron while the latter prepared the countdown to detonate the Scorpion bombs around the world, which Gigabyte followed by activating a unique deflector made by the Robot Army to prevent their imminent attackers from destroying the tower with ordnance.
Before long, Umbra Ops arrived in an attempt to stop the countdown, and Gigabyte immediately confronted them after they exchanged words with Omnitron. Troubled by Gigabyte's attempt to impede them, the four heroes explained that they didn't want to fight their old friend, though Gigabyte viciously remarked there was nothing left of their "old friend" to save. Gigabyte then summoned his dual Razor Disks and prepared to fight Umbra Ops while Omnitron relocated to a balcony higher up to watch the imminent battle. Gigabyte masterfully flourished his weapons before engaging the heroes in a brutal fight.
After a long and tiring battle, the heroes managed to pin Gigabyte down to the ground while Alex "Rook" Miller attempted to abort the countdown. However, Gigabyte broke free of the team's hold and hurled one of his Razor Disks at Rook. The heroes tried to warn Rook of the incoming projectile, and while Rook was able to react in time, he was unable to move fully out of the way as Gigabyte's Razor Disk sliced off his entire right arm, cauterizing his wound almost instantly from the sheer heat of the blade. The heroes released Gigabyte and attempted to aid Rook, though Omnitron dropped down from his balcony and detained them.
Gigabyte approached Rook while he laid on the ground screaming in agony and grabbed him by the neck, hoisting him in the air. Gigabyte readied his second Razor Disk in his offhand and prepared to kill Rook, though Omnitron ordered him to stop, remarking that there were ways of making them suffer without killing them. Gigabyte nodded and holstered his Razor Disk, using his free-hand to manifest his enhanced spatial powers to tear open a rift to the Fractured Realm. Rook tried to kick free of Gigabyte's grasp, but was unable to as the four members of Umbra Ops were thrown into the rift by Gigabyte and Omnitron.
Gigabyte and Omnitron coldly stared at the heroes as the countdown finished behind them, triggering all of the Scorpion bombs worldwide. Gigabyte began closing the rift in front of the heroes' very eyes, and Rook could only scream in horror as he realized what was happening and the bomb in Paris detonated behind the robots in the horizon. Gigabyte managed to close the rift completely just as the Scorpion gas swept over the two robots while Umbra Ops were left trapped in the Fractured Realm, left to wallow away as humanity's last survivors, powerless to save their fellow humans from nigh-extinction.[1]
Reign of the Robotic Empire[]
Ruling Earth[]
With Umbra Ops banished to the Fractured Realm, and virutally all of humanity destroyed on Earth, Gigabyte, Omnitron, and his army took full control of Earth. Relocating to Washington D.C., the army turned the city into the new home of the Robotic Empire.[3]
Umbra Ops' Return[]
Unfortunately for Gigabyte and Omnitron, their attempt to make Umbra Ops suffer horrifically backfired, as through the Cavern of Remembrance within the Fractured Realm, Umbra Ops were able to restore the Time Blade, using its power to return to their present time and arrive in the war-torn battlegrounds in front of the White House. Gigabyte and Omnitron remained atop the White House as Umbra Ops fought through the Robot Army's forces, intending to confront the two commanders of the army and put and end to their regime.
Before long, Umbra Ops managed to gain access to the roof, where they found Omnitron and Gigabyte overlooking their empire. Omnitron mockingly congratulated the heroes for reaching the end of the line, saying that their long journey would finally end forever as the two robots turned to face their adversaries. Gigabyte proclaimed that the heroes would join the rest of humanity in death as the final battle between Umbra Ops and the two robots began. Gigabyte personally fought against the Bennett brothers while Omnitron fought against Rook and Tyler Jackson.
While Gigabyte fought against the Bennett brothers, Omnitron was soon incapcitated by Rook, who utilized the Time Blade to unleash a surge of Forward temporal energy throughout the robot's body. Gigabyte watched in horror as his master rusted up and fell apart into a pile of scrap metal, destroying him once and for all. Glaring at the scrap heap that was once Omnitron, Gigabyte mused about the Time Blade, remarking that with time under their control, there would be no limits. Gigabyte then launched an attack on Rook while his guard was seemingly down, though Rook countered by striking Gigabyte with the Time Blade.
Gigabyte staggered backwards and discovered that Rook had used the Reversal energies of the blade on him. Powerless to do anything, Gigabyte's conciousness was painfully purged from his body and replaced with Roach's conciousness prior to his assimilation by Omnitron's hand, thus putting an end to Omnitron's number two and the last commander of the Robot Army. Soon after, Gigabyte and Omnitron's annhilation of humanity was completely undone by the Time Blade, which Rook used to revive all of the fallen humans that were killed by the Scorpion weapon.[3]
Boss Rush Tournament[]
Member of the Thirteen[]
Due to its powerful lingering presence, Gigabyte's conciousness was revived with a reflection body by the Grandmaster using a combination of Prima Materia and the mystical energies of the Delphi Amphitheater. Alongside twelve other members, one of which being his master Omnitron, Gigabyte was inducted into the Thirteen to participate in the Boss Rush Tournament, becoming the group's seventh-ranked member based on his abilities and prior history in his universe.
After a series of battles in the tournament that rendered the Thirteen's member count down to four, Gigabyte was selected to fight next by the Grandmaster and was pitted against the four Umbra Ops members that previously foiled the Robot Army's plans. After an intense battle against the heroes, Gigabyte was ultimately defeated by them and left severely damaged to the point where he could barely hold himself together as he looked on toward the heroes that bested him.
Gigabyte composed himself and remarked that his existence was a paradox, questioning if he was considered to be human if all that was left of his physicality was metal and wires, or if he was considered to be robotic if he still harbored human emotions deep within him that allowed him to feel as if he was fully human. When asked by TJ what be believed he was, Gigabyte paused before responding with an ominous "neither" before fading away. Of the thirteen Roach Chronicles bosses present in the tournament, Gigabyte was the tenth boss to be eliminated.[2]
Personality[]
Gigabyte was a ruthless and merciless cyborg, having been programmed as such by Omnitron to be the perfect sentient weapon. He held no form of empathy toward his original human species and former teammates, pledging total loyalty to his master's cause while always carrying out his orders without question. This led him to have no sympathy with his own former teammates whom he now frequently taunted, ones he once considered to be his own brethren.
Gigabyte's resurrection in Boss Rush opened an entirely new side to his personality, as he began to slowly waver from the callous programming Omnitron implanted in his mind while still retaining his loyalty to him. Gigabyte began questioning what he truly was as a being, concluding that he was neither human nor robot but rather a blur once he was ultimately defeated for the final time.
Weapons and Abilities[]
Gigabyte's weapon of choice is a pair of Razor Disks, two incredibly sharp blades that act similar to brass knuckles. Gigabyte also has the ability to throw them a short distance before returning safely to him. These blades can easily cut through human flesh and bones without stopping.
In terms of physical strength, Gigabyte is incredibly powerful, more so than his original persona as a human. Due to his status as a robot, Gigabyte does not age and is ultimately not affected by the Scorpion nerve agent like his former kind. As demonstrated in Induction, Gigabyte can punch a human down onto the ground with a single punch with little to no effort.
As revealed in Age of Extinction, Gigabyte still has access to the powers over Space he had when he was still human. Due to his robotic nature however, Gigabyte was not bound to the mortal limitations of his powers, thus allowing him to achieve feats previously unseen. One such feat would be the ability to generate rifts to other alternate dimensions without using the Aether, a feat only the strongest of the Prophets of the Soulless and other powerful beings could achieve.
