The Mask of Nictis was a powerful relic featured in the Eternal Despair saga of the Roach Chronicles. Like its creator, the mask originated from the Cursed Realm, and was forged from the dark energies sourced from the Aether. It had the ability to drain a cursed being's soul of their energy, transferring it into the mask's wearer, giving the wearer incredible power and strength. As part of Nictis' plan, he would utilize his mask to create an entire army of the dead during his quest to procure the Dark Scepter, later allowing his Dark Order to siphon off some of the mask's powers in order to experiment with the undead.
Background[]
At some point in time, the Mask of Nictis was created by Nictis during his time as the ruler of the Cursed Realm. However, once the Cursed Realm's physical embodiment was released into reality, it ultimately allowed Nictis to escape. However, the mask would be separated from its creator, ending up in a frozen plain in Alaska.
Eternal Despair[]
Eventually, soldiers from the 501st Corporation discovered the mask years later and proceeded to transport the mask to a private military research lab in Washington via cargo train. However, the newly-freed Nictis learned of the mask's location and attacked the train, derailing it a few miles from the final destination. The mask would be activated in the resulting crash, turning nearly all of the train's crew into zombies, as well as the inhabitants of a nearby town. Four survivors of the crash attempt to procure the mask from the wreckage, but are confronted by Nictis himself. He proceeds to use the mask, transforming the four into zombies. With his mission complete, Nictis fled the site with the mask in his possession.
With his mask, Nictis would continue to spread chaos across the land, all while actively searching for the location of the Dark Scepter.
