Biography[]
Early Life[]
Childhood[]
Samantha Reed was born on March 25th, 2119 in the Los Angeles District of Midnight City. In 2128, Samantha was nine years old when Atlas International became the governing body of Midnight City.[2]
Finding Her Calling[]
In 2134, at the age of fifteen, Samantha stumbled upon an injured Atlas Security agent who had been stabbed by a mugger while on patrol. With guidance from the agent, Samantha worked to help stabilize his stab wound until first responders arrived, finding herself to be quite fond of the practice. When help finally arrived, the agent praised Samantha for her help, recommending she hone in her medical abilities.
Inspired by her fateful encounter with the injured agent, Samantha enrolled at Midnight City University with a major in biomedical engineering after graduating high school in 2137. While attending university, Samantha befriended Melissa Anders and was roommates with Renee Lynch. Samantha later graduated in 2141 with a medical degree and a scholarship with the Atlas Graduate Sponsorship Program, and after receiving basic training, became a combat medic within the Midnight City Security Force.
During her time with the Midnight City Security Force, Samantha became acquianted with Doctor Angela Ziegler, the Medical Director of Atlas International, who openly praised Samantha's abilities and occasionally mentored her whenever she was available.[2]
A Twist in Time[]
On August 26th, 2143, the entirety of Earth-52319 was destroyed after Blackout failed to defuse the excess amount of Fractured-Space Energy eroding the universe's stability, killing all of its inhabitants, including Samantha. The days leading up to this future would be contained within a Timeline Loop by The Son, who tasked replicant variants of Techno's Inner Circle Heads to enter the loop to change the outcome of the future within it.
The variants succeeded in their mission by ensuring Blackout fulfilled his duties, allowing The Son to use the now stabilized loop as a universal foundation to restore Earth-52319 and change the grim future that would have originally played out. To ensure this future did not repeat itself, all F-Space Energy in the universe was removed from existence as a result of Blackout's success in the loop that now served as the foundation for the new history.[3]
Working with Techno[]
Job Transfer[]
On October 5th, 2143, Samantha was still working for the Midnight City Security Force when she was approached by her university friend Melissa, who had risen to become the Director of Atlas' P.A.R.A.D.O.X. unit. Melissa informed Samantha that Techno, a group of elite heroes from Paradise Island that Atlas acquired after the Mirage Corporation went bankrupt, was being inducted into Melissa's organization.
For her exceptional medical abilities and prior history together at Midnight City University, Melissa offered Samantha a job as Techno's very own medical officer, explaining that the group never had one of their own as they relied on services from the Mirage Corporation. Honored that she was handpicked to work with a revered group of heroes, Samanatha accepted Melissa's offer and was subsequently transferred from the Midnight City Security Force to Techno.
On October 19th, Samantha met with Techno's senior members in Midnight City, who welcomed her into the group's roster. Samantha soon adopted the callsign "Pulse" for herself, which she derived from her medical experiences. Pulse's newfound position allowed her to begin working closely with Victor Payton's Tech Agent division, who assisted Pulse in creating her medicine orders.[2]
Living in Techno Tower[]
By November 10th, Pulse and her fellow Techno operatives were all relocated to Techno Tower, the group's new base of operations in the Los Angeles District. In addition to receiving a custom suite, Pulse was also provided her own medical office that connected next door, where she largely operated from to help treat Techno agents who were injured on-duty. On the morning of November 13th, Pulse was on the phone in her office when Roxanne Summers and Abigail-Ignotus passed by.[1]
Twilight Collective Uprising[]
Treating Vega[]
On March 5th, 2145, Jennifer "Vega" Reese was critically injured and crippled after sustaining a gunshot wound in her lower spine while trying to escape from Marshal Wolfe and his Twilight Collective forces amidst their assault on Atlas Tower. After narrowly escaping the war-torn tower, Vega was taken to Pulse upon returning to Techno Tower, where she managed to save her life and provide her state-of-the-art leg braces to walk again.[4]
Observing the Collective[]
While many of Techno's members were soon deployed to Paradise Island to assist in the island's defense and protect the newly-established Megacorporation Global Alliance in response to the Twilight Collective's actions, Pulse remained stationed at Techno Tower along with Amber Summers, Envoy, Jessie "Dynamo" Kessler, Tsuki and Biggs and Wedge to maintain the tower's own defenses and keep an eye on the collective forces within the area. Two months later on May 15th, Pulse and her allies at Techno Tower noticed the mass mobilization of Allison "Nightstalker" Texas' forces leaving Midnight City and quickly informed Tomiko "Vendetta" Hayashi of the news.[5]
Paying Respects[]
After the Twilight Collective and its leaders were defeated during a climatic battle at the Central Vault, Pulse left Midnight City to attend a memorial service on Paradise Island to pay her respects to Vega and various other MGA soldiers who were lost in the battle.[5]
