Doctor Samuel Higgins is renowned scientist and explorer who specializes in the study and acquisition of powerful relics throughout his universe. He is also one of the original four members of Novus.

Background

Due to his status, Higgins was targeted by Edward Richtofen, who forced him to decipher research regarding the Omega Key. After Richtofen and Xarcoh secured the key, Higgins joined forces with three other survivors, forming Novus together before setting out on a mission to stop the villains' plan to resurrect their master Gruntijackal.

While Novus were unable to prevent Gruntijackal's resurrection, they succeeded in defeating him and his disciples. In the aftermath of the battle, Novus destroyed the Yin Blade to prevent its power from being used, only to realize the weapon's destruction caused great damage to the Aether, effecting their universe. For the next five years, Novus struggled to find a way to fix their mess until they managed to find the means of forging the Key of Union, using its powers to mend the Aether with help from Samantha Maxis.

Shortly afterward however, Tribus returned to Earth in search of the Lamp of Destiny, seeking to use its power to reshape destiny in their image by fulfilling the prophecy of the Emperor of Destiny. As a way of forcing Novus to begrudingly cooperate with their cause, Richtofen murdered Higgins in cold blood, using his death as a bargaining chip for Novus to follow through with Tribus' plans, promising to revive him with the lamp should they succeed. In the end however, Tribus were ultimately defeated, and Higgins was instead resurrected with the Gauntlet of Ataraxia conjured previously by Xarcoh.

A week later, Higgins and his allies were studying the gauntlet when they encountered Roach, who sought their help to combat Ataraxia and prevent him from collecting the Infinity Stones, namely the Power Stone contained in the gauntlet they possessed. Alongside the United Heroes, Novus managed to eventually defeat Ataraxia. However, their victory only ensured Nictis' escape from the Soul Stone soon after, who sought to rebuild the Cursed Realm by converting the Arc 2 universe into a new realm. Novus were unable to stop Nictis from procuring the Dark Scepter, who used it to created the Accursed Realm.

In the months that followed, the inhabitants of the newly-born realm sought to oppose Nictis, forming the Rebellion of Realms. Together, the rebellion managed to fight against Nictis and his Dark Order before confronting him in his base in Berlin. However, while the rebellion managed to defeat Nictis, The Visitor arrived, using the Dark Order's research on Unistone to forcefully create a Convergence. Novus soon joined forces with the other United Heroes to stop The Visitor from annihilating all universes connected to the Convergence.

Following Master Ronin's successfully mission to use Project Medusa to wipe out 75% of all life in the Arc 1 universe, Higgins and his allies assisted Mackenzie Davis in becoming acquainted with Doctor Evan Jones, a friend of Higgins who specialized in researching the Sentinel Artifacts, which possessed the ancient power of Prima Materia that Mac sought to use to undo Ronin's actions. After Mac and his team's success, Novus found themselves facing the Grandmaster alongside several other multiversal heroes, who sought to use the battle between heroes and villains to forge a key that would enable his escape from his artificial prison. Ultimately, the Grandmaster was defeated and the heroes were returned to their proper universes.
