The Sentinel Artifacts were three primordial artifacts that served as the key to accessing the last of Prima Materia. An artificial Sentinel Artifact belonging to the Grandmaster also existed in Earth-61017, serving as the lock to the trial binding the Grandmaster to Delphi.

Grandmaster's Sentinel Artifact[]
Cursed by Prima Materia[]
In 490 BC, a young man known as the Grandmaster learned of Prima Materia through knowledge obtained through No Name and its Eye of The Father. Using this knowledge, the Grandmaster sought to deem himself worthy of harnessing the substance's power, actively seeking it out. Upon stumbling upon a deposit of Prima Materia in the mines nearby Delphi, the Grandmaster was horrified when the substance deemed him unworthy of using its power, knowing the young man would be fueled solely by his ambitions and lust for power.
Knowing it would take time for the Grandmaster to understand his errors, the substance cursed him and the nearby city, freezing them in time and encasing the city in an artificial Sentinel Trial. The substance gifted the Grandmaster an artificial Sentinel Artifact, which acted as the key to ending the trial. However, in order to activate the relic and cease the trial once and for all, a great battle between light and darkness would be required to occur on the sacred grounds of Delphi, something that the Grandmaster thought to be impossible.[2]
The Fated Battles[]
Thousands of years later, the opportunity to commence such a battle between light and darkness came when the Grandmaster learned of the completion of the Ultimate Trial through his deep connection with Prima Materia. Now aware of the multiverse and the possible contenders he could amass for his needs, the Grandmaster pleaded to the Sentinel Artifact he possessed, asking for just a sliver of Prima Materia to transport all he needed to enact such a battle. To his surprise, the artifact responded, subsequently transporting heroes and villains alike from across the multiverse to Delphi for the great battles.
Soon, the Grandmaster oversaw all preparations to ensure the battles fit the Sentinel Artifact's demands, including creating reflections for those who needed them to participate. The Grandmaster soon took his seat in the Delphi Amphitheater, watching as the respective battles between heroes and villains occurred, with each battle, regardless of who won, creating a small piece of the Sentinel Key needed to activate the Grandmaster's Sentinel Artifact. After the final battle had been fought between the Thirteen and the heroes that fought them, the final piece of the key was created.
Finally armed with the key, the Grandmaster immediately used it to complete the trial, ending his sentence and causing his artificial Sentinel Artifact to fade away.[2]
