The Great Journey is an alternate setting based on the Four Survivors mission Revelation in Call of Duty: Awakening of the Hive. Following a small 501st fireteam of four, Staff Sergeant Nakamura and her teammates must prevent the Hive from beginning The Great Journey. In this map, it is revealed that the Hive used the Shadows of Darkness as their pawns throughout human history to influence humanity's eventual downfall and near-extinction when Federal Russia launched the NAKA Missiles, and the Fallen Brotherhood fought against them since.
Its also the first map to feature Hive enemies, introducing the Hive Hunters, the Hive Guardians, and the feared Hive Overlords. While the Shadows of Darkness make no direct appearance, a Shadow High Master is present.
Story[]
With the forces of the 501st Corporation attempting to fend off Hive and Shadows of Darkness forces across their controlled territories on Earth, a small fireteam led by Staff Sergeant Ruby Xiao Nakamura followed a Shadow High Master to Switzerland, Europe where they learn that they were going to resurrect a Hive Gravemind, told by the Fallen Brotherhood to be the ultimate and de facto leaders of the Hive. After learning this, the fireteam proceeds to plant explosives around the upper levels of the Temple which is disguised as a castle home in order to destroy the Temple below, caving in everything and killing the Hive and Shadow High Master.
However, they are spotted by nearby Infected and are attacked by Runners and Stalkers. Hive Hunters, Guardians and an Overlord later join the fight alongside the Infected to kill the 501st fireteam. However, the Fallen Brotherhood come to their aid, telling them that they would distract the Hive outside of the castle since they are seen as larger threats and so Ruby and her team deal with Infected on the inside while planting explosives and finding themselves an escape route out for when the explosions begin.
After planting the explosives and escaping the castle, Ruby, her team and the Fallen Brotherhood team watch as the castle is destroyed with the Temple below being caved in, killing the Hive and Shadow High Master within. However, only the High Master dies and the Hive Overlord and Predecessor vow revenge on the 501st team and their Fallen allies.

- The map's console codename is a reference to Ichiban no Takaramono, a Zombies map first featured in Call of Duty: Infected.
- It was confirmed by both Tachibana Games and community map developer Jenkins S115 SII that this map does NOT tie into Call of Duty: Awakening of the Hive.
