- “Choice, is what presents us with a multitude of paths, because choice creates a flow of electrons through the brain in a manner that inexorably leads to quantum superposition, and the many-worlds that are the inevitable result.”

Theoretical, also known as Apocalypse and Agartha, is a Zombies map included in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. It is the nineteenth (chronologically both the second and final) map, and is the first to include multiple areas as well as both main groups of playable protagonists: the "Original Characters" Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Samantha Maxis (still trapped within Edward Richtofen's body) and the "Green Run Group" Abigail Briarton, Marlton Johnson, Russman, Samuel Stulinger.
Overview[]
- Please note: This map continues after the end of Maxis' side of the Buried easter egg. If Richtofen's side is completed, this map would not happen, and hence be deemed as "non-canon".
Continuing after the events of Maxis' side of Buried, the "Green Run Group" get teleported to the centre of the Earth by a mysterious golden light and end up alongside the "Original Characters" in a ruined city found in the depths of the Earth. The Zombies eyes, like at the end of Buried, glow an orange colour, indicating that Ludvig Maxis is in control of the Zombies. Despite this, when in one area of the past, Crusader Zombies with blue/purple eyes appear. This is due to them being affected by Element 115, and are not controlled by a single entity. The map features many Wonder Weapons, the return of the Hellhounds and Panzer Soldat, as well as the return of several power-ups and Perk-a-Colas.
Like Origins, there is no power switch on the map, instead having six generators that power the area directly around it. While neither the Mystery Box nor the Pack-a-Punch Machine need power to be used, the Mystery Box's default spawn can only be opened by turning on the near-by generator, while the Pack-a-Punch raises up from the ground after all six generators are active.
Features[]
- A new boss enemy: Spirit of Maxis, which spawns every time a Generator is powered.
- Returning boss enemies: George A. Romero (in Call of the Dead) and Panzer Soldat (throughout any world)
- The new Spiritual Portals, which throw all players to a place in the past (Shi No Numa, Der Reise, Kino der Toten, Ascension, Call of the Dead, Shangri-La, Griffon Station, Town, Die Rise, Buried or Origins in a randomized order)
- AI-controlled allies (the "Celebrities" while on Call of the Dead: Michael Rooker, Robert Englund, Danny Trejo and Sarah Michelle Gellar)
- Edward Richtofen appears as an indestructible Zombie "ally".
- A new major easter egg, Inter-dimensional Vortex.
- A secondary easter egg, Chamber of Repetition.
Transcripts[]
Opening[]
The blue teleporter effect shows on screen, with the previous other stages passing by quickly
Tank: "What the hell did you do?"
Nikolai: "I did what Richtofen did last time!"
Four pairs of feet land on a red-crusted Earth, with lava spewing out of the ground.
Tank: "Oh god. What the hell did we do?"
Maxis: "Ah, the entire gang's here now."
Samantha: "Daddy?"
The camera pans upwards showing the faces of the four heroes, with Samantha's face (ghostly) overlaid on Richtofen's. A group of Zombies swarm the four, and trap them within a circle.
Maxis: "Nice try, Edward. I can see through your tricks."
A ghostly silhouette of Ludvig Maxis appears in front of the four. He grabs the Wunderwaffe DG-2 from Nikolai's hands and shoots it into the air, before tossing it into a lava pit.
Tank: "What the fuck, Max?"
Maxis: "Thank you so much for your help. Now, I must enter the Aether so I can reunite with Samantha."
Maxis disappears, and Samantha's hand shoots out.
Samantha: "But...?"
Four figures appear in front of the Original Characters
Misty: "What the hell? Marlton?"
Marlton: "I dunno Misty. Blast them!"
Zombies quickly die off, but none of them advance upon the figures in the centre of the circle. Few zombies remain when they stop firing.
Maxis: "I regret to inform you all that none of you will survive this ordeal. It has been a pleasure working with you all."
The Zombies' eyes glow yellow for a moment, before retaining their orange colour.
Maxis: "Get them."

Rooms[]
Agartha[]
Origins[]
Shi No Numa[]
Der Reise[]
Kino der Toten[]
Ascension[]
Call of the Dead[]
Ship's Front - First Deck[]
The first floor of the ship, where one enters from the starting room in the original, is the landing point for the teleporter. The ship is almost exactly the same as it's Call of the Dead counterpart, although with upgraded graphics.
Up the flight of stairs sits debris where one can buy. One can also buy a debris covering the back of the ship.
Ship's Back - First Deck[]
The only area that one can traverse over the back of the boat is the top deck. The area around the skylight is the only area that can be accessed, as the other areas are blocked by semi-destroyed crates.
Ship's Front - Second Deck[]
Up the stairs lays, again, the exact replica of the ship's second floor. The stairs in the room is blocked by debris, which one can buy, while the Flopper is out of order.
Ship's Front - Third Deck[]
The third, small deck, is relatively unchanged from the original version. From the roof, one can see the entirety of the map, but can not access it as the zip-line has been cut. The teleporter is located in the room where the power originally was, and the doors mustn't be opened, as they have been blown off their hinges and both lay on their sides.
Shangri-La[]
Starting Room[]
The Starting Room is much different from it's Shangri-La counterpart: the stone walls have been knocked over, the vegetation growing wildly and the stairs to the ruins have already been deployed. The mud maze can be opened for 750 points, and the spikes still come out. A part for the Siliquifier can spawn where the Quick Revive machine was. A Shrieker Zombie's screams can be heard in the background.
Mud Maze[]
The walls have fallen over (most of) the mud, allowing for quicker access. The cliffside area can be cleared of debris for 750 points, and the Electric Cherry machine can be found directly beside the entrance.
Cliffside[]
The cliffside is exactly the same as it's Shangri-La counterpart, although now the vegetation is on fire thanks to a Napalm Zombie that walks around the background. Looking in the distance, one can see that the Bridge has been cut. In addition, a destroyed Lunar Lander from Ascension can be seen under where the bridge was. This is where the teleporter is, as is one of the spawn points for a Zombie Shield piece.
Moon[]
M.P.D. Room[]
The M.P.D. Room is remarkable similar to that of it's Moon counterpart (so much, that Samantha will remark that her home "hasn't changed a bit"). The only difference is that the computers have been smashed and the Bowie Knife can be found on the wall behind the M.P.D. Who's Who (2000 points) can be found where the Mystery Box spawn point was. The teleporter lays inside of the M.P.D., and Richtofen will remark how that is impossible.
Oddly, Panzer Soldats can not spawn here, but can teleport here alongside players.
Green Run[]
Town Square[]
The large lava pit has dried up, leaving a large crater from which zombies spawn in. A few wooden boards have been placed over top the hole, allowing some access through. Both the bank (1000 points) and the bar (750 points) can be opened, though the area where Juggernog was has collapsed. Players can not cross behind where the Pack-a-Punch was in the town's Town counterpart.
Bank[]
The bank remains mostly unchanged from Green Run. The vault can not be opened, as the door has been smashed at an odd angle and is constantly electrified. If one stands close enough, one can hear strange whispering not unlike that of the Ghost's from Buried. Vulture Aid (3000 points) sits where Speed Cola did in Town.
Bar[]
The bar remains somewhat the same. The pool table has been moved to block the staircase, although zombies still spawn from the hole behind it and crawl over/under the table. Claymores can be bought from the bar, and Semtex from a table. A part for the Siliquifier can spawn on one of the booths.
Corn Field[]
Players are able to run through the fog (and Denizens) to the cornfield. Sadly, the Nacht der Untoten area is unable to be explored, as the bus is seen laying down in the corn. If one stands near the bus, they can hear T.E.D.D. speaking slowly and sometimes repeating himself, as if he is malfunctioning. A part for the Zombie Shield can be found in the corn to the left of the bus.
Pylon[]
Players can go to the Pylon, a major point in the easter egg for both maps, as this is where the teleporter is located.
Die Rise[]
Starting Room[]
The starting room is drastically different from the original version featured in Die Rise. The Pylon found on top of the roof has collapsed, and the second floor has crumbled inward. Despite that, zombies still spawn from the four original spawn points from Die Rise. The only way down is the elevator in the first room, which is stuck with it's roof to the PhD Flopper floor. The perk can be bought for 2000 points, and a door to the left of it can be opened for 2000 points. A part for the Zombie Shield can spawn to the left of the rubble. The MP40 can be found on the wall underneath the zombie drop down point to the left of the players after they spawn.
Stairwell[]
The side room is a wide stairwell (marked "emergency exit") leading to the floor where the elevator originally stopped at. Zombies spawn from holes in the walls, and the Quick Revive machine can be found at the bottom. The door to the original floor that the elevator stopped at must be opened for 750 points.
Elevator Floor[]
The elevator floor is exactly the same as it's Die Rise counterpart. Zombies spawn in the same locations, and players are still able to jump over to the second building from here.
Showers[]
The showers return, and are attached to the large room outside the power room. All other exits have been blocked, and the power room can be opened for 750 points.
Power Room[]
The power switch has been torn out of the wall, the elevators barricaded and the sewing machines pushed around the edges of the room, but the room stays somewhat similar to the original. Zombies can spawn through various new holes in the walls, as well as a large hole in the ceiling above where the power switch was. The teleporter can be found here.
Buried[]
Processing[]
The area stays the same as it does in Buried. The LSAT is located in the same area, while the B23R replaces the Olympia. Players can fall down the large pit that leads to the mines here. A part for the Siliquifier can spawn against the railing that zombies climb up onto.
Mine[]
Like processing, this area remains mostly unchanged from Buried. The Quick Revive machine from the original map has fallen over, and various bottles can be seen broken on the ground. The Remington 870 MS is in the area above the drop-down into the barn.
Barn[]
The upstairs area of the barn has been destroyed, and players will now drop down to the ground. Zombies spawn from various small holes in the wall and ground. A wall to the left of the area you drop down into has been knocked down, and must be cleared for 1000 points.
Road[]
The road where the Mystery Box originally spawned in Buried. The second floor of the house with the building table has been knocked down, revealing many holes in the side of the cliff, where zombies spawn. The area where Juggernog was has been cleared, and the Juggernog machine can be seen flickering on and off. A drink can be bought from here for 2500 points. The house across from the Mystery Box spawn point can be opened for 2000 points. The jail can not be opened, and Leroy can not be found anywhere.
House[]
The house is drastically different from it's Buried appearance. The ceiling has caved in, destroying the second floor and stairs. Players can run around the small area in the front, though there is nothing of interest here. A teleporter can be found here, and will teleport you to another area.
