- “So you have come this far... and still you have learned nothing? Then allow me... to teach you what it means to accept your fate, and begin anew!”
- ―Xarcoh
Xarcoh, the Hero of Darkness, was the Soulless of Roach, Rank I among the four original Soulless, Rank VI of the Thirteen, the original incarnation of Ignotus, and a major recurring antagonist throughout the Roach Chronicles.
Biography[]
Creation[]
Xarcoh, along with the other Soulless of Division One, was formed when his respective human counterpart had his soul stripped from his body through the use of the Harbinger; Roach's hollow body faded into darkness and reformed in Limbo as a Soulless, an entity whose existence was bound to darkness. Xarcoh would arise first before his fellow Soulless brethren, and upon seeing his new home, materialized the Harbinger in his right hand and stared into the empty sky, declaring his new name for the first time.[4]
Serving the Prophets[]
Mastering His Powers[]
During their time in Limbo, each of the Soulless would gain special elemental powers and weaponry, with Xarcoh receiving the element of Space; unbeknownst to Xarcoh, his powers would be derived from the Space Stone, which the Prophets of the Soulless had infused into him during his formation in Limbo, though he would still keep his powers even without the stone. For the next few years, the Soulless would train to master the dark arts and their respective newfound abilities under the watchful eyes of Echthroi and the Prophets, who sought to induct one of the Soulless as the primary vessel to be reborn as Erebus.[5]
Released from Limbo[]
Just before the four year anniversary of the Soulless' formation, the Prophets decided that in order to deduce who would best suit them as Erebus, they must see which of them would survive the longest if returned to their original universe without letting them know what the plan was.
With that, the Prophets generated a rift to Earth-92116 by remotely accessing the Space Stone, where Xarcoh and the other Soulless would emerge at an underground chamber in Northwestern Matuer, Tunisia; upon emerging back in their original universe, the four Soulless would unknowingly begin the process of regenerating souls of their own, as the restrictions of Limbo was no longer holding them back. By the time they had returned to their reality however, it had been already decimated by nuclear fallout and another zombie outbreak as a result of Unit 14's efforts to create a new cycle in time to replace them.
While exploring the desolate world, Xarcoh would assume command over the other three Soulless much like his original self, and establish two bases at an abandoned coastal bunker in Genoa, Italy and the now-abandoned Gilze Rijen Air Base in Hulten, Netherlands. Harboring disdain towards Unit 14 as a result of his human self's lingering willpower still trapped within him, Xarcoh opted to use the opportunity to fight back against Unit 14, and tasked Lextyr with performing reconnaissance on a Unit 14 facility in Hamburg, Germany.[1]
Hunted by Amici[]
On July 17th, Xarcoh and the other Soulless would learn that Lextyr was slain, not by Unit 14, but rather Amici, close friends of their human counterparts who sought to save them from their dark suffering. Having remotely seen Xarcoh as a more likely candidate to become Erebus, Echthroi telepathically influenced Xarcoh to force Yaxnor and Xirsch into staying behind to keep Amici busy while he returned to the rift in Tunisia to return to Limbo. By the next morning, both Yaxnor and Xirsch had been slain at the airbase and bunker respectively, leaving Xarcoh as the final survivor of the Soulless. With time running out, Xarcoh relentlessly traveled back to Tunisia while Amici closely followed behind, leading to him being confronted by them in the underground chamber.
By this time however, Xarcoh had finally developed a soul of his own, with Echthroi's telepathic influence on Xarcoh being clashed by the latter's newfound uncorrupted emotions and soul. Because of this, Xarcoh decided to fight off Amici rather than immediately retreat as ordered, wasting valuable time as the rift's stability began to rapidly deteriorate. After Xarcoh was defeated for the first time, Echthroi reinforced his telepathic contact to quell Xarcoh's unchained emotions for the moment, ordering Xarcoh to immediately venture into the rift before it was too late. Xarcoh complied, though he was immediately trailed by Amici, who fought him one last time in the crumbling dimensional pocket within the rift.
After one last climatic battle, Xarcoh was ultimately defeated by Amici. With that, Xarcoh's physical form faded out to restore Roach while Amici used his discarded Harbinger before it faded away to release Division One's original souls ensnared within it, allowing all of Division One to be successfully restored as humans back in California, with Roach even taking the Space Stone with him as it became merged into his soul during his restoration.[1] Meanwhile, Xarcoh's own soul was left without a body, and thanks to his spatial powers he managed to transfer into his soul, it would venture to Earth-61017 through the fading rift, where it would find refuge within Willard Wyler's Soul Jar to preserve itself.[2]
Member of Tribus[]
Restored by Richtofen[]
A few days following the Day of the Departed festival, the Soul Jar was stolen by Edward Richtofen after he captured Wyler's soul within it following his escape from Wyler's Zombies in Spaceland film. After traveling to his original home universe of Earth-31218, Richtofen discovered Xarcoh's unique soul within the Soul Jar. Desiring a new ally to help with his plans, Richtofen used the Yin Blade and its dark magic to restore Xarcoh's physical form.
As a result of this, Xarcoh's uncorrupted soul would be tainted by the Yin Blade's dark magic, making him almost identical to how he acted when he lacked a soul, though slightly hinged with a more chaotic neutral personality. Upon being restored, Xarcoh questioned what Richtofen was planning on doing, with the latter explaining he planned to resurrect Gruntijackal, who would give them the power to control the Aether. Interested by his plan, Xarcoh agreed to help out.[2]
Resurrecting Gruntijackal[]
Xarcoh would later go undercover for Richtofen, posing as a mysterious man and aiding three survivors of a zombie outbreak Richtofen created at the city of Green Mountain in Colorado. Xarcoh kept up this charade up until he secured the Omega Key, where he revealed his true identity and purpose to his former allies afterward. Xarcoh would later command the traps of Richtofen's death arena in Brazil in order for the three remaining survivors and Dr. Samuel Higgins to collect souls for them. After they collected enough souls, Xarcoh and Richtofen escaped to the Moon with the three artifacts they secured. At the Moon, Richtofen uses the Yin Blade and his Element 115 samples to forcefully create a Green Eclipse, which he uses to free Gruntijackal from the Fractured Realm.
With Gruntijackal free, Xarcoh and Richtofen would soon launch the final step of their plan. While the four survivors, now known as Novus, fought through the Moon base, Xarcoh and Richtofen prepared the MPD for Gruntijackal. Xarcoh soon preserved Gruntijackal within the Soul Jar while Richtofen inserted the Omega Key into the Soul Jar, allowing Gruntijackal's soul to transfer itself into the Omega Key. As Richtofen was about to place in the Omega Key into the MPD, the two were confronted by Novus. Despite their pleas, Richtofen inserted the Omega Key into the MPD anyway, thus unleashing Gruntijackal's soul into the device and allowing him to possess the dormant body of Samantha Maxis. Gruntijackal would soon gain unlimited power from the MPD. As Gruntijackal fought Novus, Xarcoh and Richtofen would assist him in his fight.
However, Novus were able to destroy the four soul tubes around the MPD, diminishing Gruntijackal's power. Higgins would then launch the MPD into space, causing Gruntijackal to be lost in space. Xarcoh and Richtofen would soon be captured within the Soul Jar by Jacob and thrown into space as well. Ironically, this would cause them to be spared from the consequences of the Yin Blade's destruction, ultimately remaining in space for the next five years.[2]
Formulating a New Plan[]
After five years, Gruntijackal manages to break free of the MPD once the Aether was restored and opens the Soul Jar, releasing Xarcoh and Richtofen from within it. While the two lament over their failure to ensure Gruntijackal took control of the Aether's energies, Gruntijackal assured his generals otherwise, saying that while gaining his powers again, Gruntijackal learned of an ancient power known as Dark Creation.
Gruntijackal then explains that with that power, he would be able to transform himself into the Emperor of Destiny, an all-powerful being that would have ten times the amount of power than the Demonic Announcer, as well as the ability to reshape all of existence and rewrite destiny. Richtofen then suggests they have Novus do most of the work while they step in at the end to claim the power of Dark Creation for themselves.[6]
Blackmailing Novus[]
In order to lure out Novus, the three villains traveled back to Earth, where they arrived at Green Mountain. Xarcoh would then watch as Gruntijackal used the lingering powers he still had from the Aether to transform the entire city into a massive medieval fortress and create a new zombie army out of the citizens, all whilst sparing Novus and Samantha Maxis, who became Daniela's adoptive daughter. After fighting through the city, the four reach the fortress, where they confront Richtofen, Gruntijackal and Xarcoh.
As Higgins angrily questions how they all returned, Richtofen explains that there were still loose ends they forgot to tie up completely. In an act to show superiority, Richtofen proceeds to pull out an MR6 and brutally shoots Higgins in the chest twice as everyone watches on. As Higgins dies, Gruntijackal explains that if they wish to save Higgins' life, they must find the location of the fabled Lamp of Destiny and bring the relic to Gruntijackal at the Temple of Terminus, a temple that was hidden in the skies above the world on a floating land mass. With this, Xarcoh proceeds to use his powers to teleport himself, Richtofen and Gruntijackal to their new base at the temple.[6]
Tying Loose Ends[]
As Novus attempt to claim the lamp from the Catacombs of Destiny, they are blasted backwards by a ball of energy by Xarcoh, who suddenly appears and grabs the lamp. As the heroes get up, they question why Xarcoh was here, saying that they were going to bring it to them at the Temple of Terminus. However, Xarcoh reveals that there has been a slight change of plans, revealing that the three villains discovered a flaw when they first made the arrangements for the meeting at the temple; if the heroes got the lamp, they could easily have used it then and there at the catacombs to save Higgins and stop the villains.
Seeking to test the lamp of its powers, Xarcoh uses it to manifest a gauntlet-styled weapon on his right arm. The heroes question what it was before Xarcoh reveals that it is the all-powerful Gauntlet of Ataraxia, a weapon forged by an ultimate evil in another distant timeline, saying its powers could easily overwhelm the heroes before engaging them in a fight. Xarcoh proves to be a difficult opponent, due to him utilizing the gauntlet's powers to his advantage. Eventually, after a long fight, Xarcoh is able to weaken the heroes by blasting them with the gauntlet. Saying that his mission was complete, Xarcoh teleports himself away.[6]
Beginning the Prophecy[]
At the Temple of Terminus, Gruntijackal is in a large ritual chamber with the Lamp of Destiny while Xarcoh and Richtofen watch from a balcony. Gruntijackal soon smashes the Lamp of Destiny into pieces, which causes the Dark Creation energies within the lamp to spew out into the room. Suddenly, an alarm goes off within the temple, alerting the three. Gruntijackal orders his generals to attend to the intrusion while he continues with the ritual. As Richtofen and Xarcoh seal off the ritual chamber, Xarcoh puts the Gauntlet of Ataraxia back onto his arm, saying to Richtofen that everything changes today.
Novus soon land their helicopter on the outside balcony, which served as the main entrance to the temple. Richtofen and Xarcoh appear from within the temple to confront them, telling the heroes to give up, or face the wrath of the Emperor of Destiny. When the heroes refused, Richtofen then explains that the temple will merely become their eternal grave before snapping his fingers. This triggers the temple's emergency response system, creating an army of zombies in order to face the heroes. Xarcoh and Richtofen soon enter the temple before sealing off the main door. However, the heroes are able to open the door into the temple and proceed inside.[6]
Encounter with Umbra Ops[]
While Novus fought off the zombies within the temple, Richtofen and Xarcoh would travel to the sky garden below the temple, where they discover Umbra Ops retrieving the Reversal attribute of the Time Blade. Xarcoh grabs the attribute, shocking the members of Umbra Ops. As the team questions why Xarcoh was here, Xarcoh explains the whole story to them, revealing the circumstances of his survival and how he was able to develop a soul of his own.
He soon reveals that both him and Richtofen were currently working to help Gruntijackal become the all-powerful Emperor of Destiny before commenting that Umbra Ops have no reason to remain. Xarcoh then absorbs the Reversal attribute, gaining its power before charging into battle against Umbra Ops with Richtofen. After a long and gruesome fight, Alex "Rook" Miller is able to use the Time Blade to absorb the Reversal attribute from within Xarcoh. Undeterred, Xarcoh explains he hopes to one day fight them again before teleporting away with Richtofen.[7]
Fulfilling the Prophecy[]
Back within the temple, Novus are able to enter the lower levels of the ritual chamber, where they see Gruntijackal performing the ritual. As the energies of the Dark Creation circle around Gruntijackal, the heroes attempt to stop the ritual, but are stopped by Richtofen and Xarcoh. A fight against the two villains begins in the ritual chamber, with Gruntijackal becoming untouchable in his chamber due to a forcefield he was able to create with his growing powers. After the battle, Xarcoh drops the gauntlet, telling Richtofen that the ritual will succeed, no matter the cost.
As Gruntijackal nods to his generals, Xarcoh grabs Richtofen's arm and the two jump into Gruntijackal's forcefield, destroying both of them, but causing both of their energies to be absorbed by Gruntijackal. With this added energy, Gruntijackal is able to complete the ritual. As the forcefield around him is disabled, Gruntijackal begins his ultimate transformation into the Emperor of Destiny. Gruntijackal soon backs up into another room behind the ritual chamber before sealing the door with the use of his Dark Creation powers.
However, despite the Emperor of Destiny's incredible strength and power, his power was dimished with the use of the Ravish by the four heroes. This would cause the Emperor of Destiny to lose his physical form upon absorbing the Ravish's powerful yet unstable energies, causing the Emperor of Destiny to turn into a ball of energy and explode in the skies above the temple, destroying the Emperor of Destiny, Richtofen and Xarcoh in the process.[6]
Quest for the Infinity Stones[]
Resurrection[]
Xarcoh, along with Richtofen and Gruntijackal, is resurrected along with several other villains by Ataraxia with the use of the Time Blade. After revealing his plan to the other villains, Ataraxia proceeds to destroy the Time Blade, revealing the Time Stone, and soon inserts it into the Infinity Gauntlet.[8]
Ataraxia's Assignment[]
After fully debriefing the villains on the whereabouts of the other Infinity Stones, Ataraxia assigns Xarcoh and Omnitron to recover the Soul Stone, which was housed within the Summoning Key. Upon hearing the Summoning Key's name, Xarcoh materializes the Harbinger and reveals to Ataraxia of the Summoning Key's fate as a fixture of the Harbinger.
Knowing the Summoning Key couldn't be removed by normal means, Ataraxia explains that in order to remove the Summoning Key in its current state, they would have to travel to a mystical cavern within the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, explaining that there was a mystical presence there that would enable him to remove the Summoning Key in order to collect the Soul Stone.[8]
Obtaining the Soul Stone[]
A few days later after finishing preparations, Xarcoh and Omnitron arrive at the cavern. While Omnitron stood guard in order to defend against the newly assembled United Heroes who would eventually catch onto their plans, Xarcoh would reach the end of the cavern, which housed an ancient ritual site. Summoning the Harbinger, Xarcoh would recite an incantation found on the walls in order to harness the cavern's magic.
With this newfound magic, Xarcoh would begin the process of removing the Summoning Key. During the process however, he is interrupted by the arrival of Jack McMack, TJ, and Alex "Rook" Miller, who were able to temporarily disable Omnitron with an advanced EMP grenade from the Eclipse Universe. When the trio question him, Xarcoh soon explains that the Harbinger was the literal key in unlocking the Soul Stone from its containment unit, saying that the stone had been with the heroes since the very beginning of their journey.
At that moment, Xarcoh completes the ritual and is able to separate the Summoning Key from the Harbinger's hilt, causing it to revert back to its original appearance. Xarcoh continues, explaining that the Summoning Key was what housed the Soul Stone, which enabled the artifact its powers. To prove his point, Xarcoh uses his own powers to crush the Summoning Key into pieces, revealing the orange Soul Stone within it.
Omnitron, having recovered from the EMP, soon appears behind the heroes, saying they could not possibly win in this ultimate conflict before turning his arm into his signature grenade launcher. As he shoots it, the trio dodge the grenade, but the ensuing explosion re-triggers the volcano. As the cave collapses, Xarcoh uses his powers to teleport away with Omnitron with the Soul Stone in hand.[8]
Hunting the Space Stone[]
Xarcoh and Omnitron later regroup with Ataraxia, who was in the process of confronting the United Heroes at their base, later handing him the Soul Stone for it to be inserted into the Infinity Gauntlet. Xarcoh and the other villains soon travel to Earth-31218 with the use of the Time Stone in order to confront Roach, who was in possession of the Space Stone.
Assuming Roach would go into hiding with Novus, Xarcoh leads the villains to Samuel Higgins' lab in Green Mountain, where they confront Novus and Roach. However, they flee upon learning that they were in possession of the Power Stone within the Gauntlet of Ataraxia they were examining. Ataraxia charges the villains to chase after Novus while he personally went after Roach. The villains soon reach Novus, who had united with the rest of the United Heroes.
A long fight begins between the heroes and villains, each adversary equally matched. When the villains seemed to have been defeated, Ataraxia teleports to the battle with the use of the Space Stone. Revealing Roach, Ataraxia bargains Roach's life for the Power Stone to the heroes. Despite Roach's pleas, the heroes surrender the Power Stone to Ataraxia, allowing him to complete the weapon.[8]
Betrayed by Ataraxia[]
While the heroes escape, Ataraxia soon betrays the villains, revealing that they have outlived their usefulness to him. Despite their best efforts to defeat their former benefactor, all of the villains are destroyed by Ataraxia with the use of the completed Infinity Gauntlet.
Unlike the other villains however, Xarcoh managed to ensure his soul avoided complete annihilation, having previously distrusted Ataraxia up until this point. Before Xarcoh's soul could escape to find a containment vessel for persevere itself in, Echthroi and the Prophets revealed themselves, using the Soul Jar to capture Xarcoh's soul.[8]
Becoming Erebus[]
Eventually, Echthroi and the Prophets manage to successfully capture Roach's soul within the Soul Jar after his death at the hands of The Visitor. With both Xarcoh and Roach's souls, the Prophets enact their grand plan to rebirth the two souls as a single entity: Erebus.
The Prophets succeeded in fusing the two souls together after completing a ritual with the Book of Rituals, birthing Erebus in the Dark Realm, though despite achieving their goal, Erebus and the Prophets were ultimately destroyed by Umbra Ops, who sacrificed themselves to stop the Prophets.
With Erebus' destruction, Xarcoh and Roach's souls were freed from the fusion and were each allowed to pass on individually.[5]
Participation in the Ultimate Trial[]
Xarcoh is resurrected through the use of Prima Materia to serve as the guardian of the first trial room of the Ultimate Trial started by Vindicta. Xarcoh at first questions what was going on before more Prima Materia surrounds him, corrupting his mind and forcing him to challenge the four to a fight.
As Vindicta fought against Xarcoh, Simon questions Mac on who he was. Mac explains that he was Xarcoh, Roach's Soulless who formed after Roach removed his soul with the Harbinger in order to break a time cycle created by the Earth-61017 version of Unit 14. As the battle raged on, Jones asks how Xarcoh even exists in the first place. Stopping for a moment, Mac realizes that they are in Tunisia, the place where Xarcoh attempted to return to Limbo.
This causes Xarcoh to pause for a moment as some of the Prima Materia surrounding him disappeared. Mark realizes that the fight wasn't about defeating Xarcoh, rather to understand how it came to be and what the repercussions of the aftermath would cause. Continuing with his story, Mac explains that despite Xarcoh's initial destruction, his newly formed soul escaped through the rift while Amici were imprisoned in the Fractured Realm.
Mac then explains that Xarcoh would trigger a chain of events that somehow lead to what Vindicta were currently doing. Suddenly, Xarcoh collapses to the ground as the Prima Materia leaves his body. Xarcoh soon asks the four what this trial symbolized to them. Mac responds that it helped explain how things would eventually come to be. Satisfied, Xarcoh tells the four that they have passed the first trial room before fading away as a portal formed where he once stood.[9]
Boss Rush Tournament[]
Member of the Thirteen[]
A reflection of Xarcoh is created by the mystical Delphi Amphitheater and influenced by the Grandmaster with the use of Prima Materia that was unleashed by the completion of the ultimate Sentinel Trial. This reflection would be imbued with Xarcoh's strong thoughts that still lingered even after he ceased to exist, thus allowing Xarcoh to live on one last time, though he would remain bonded to the Delphi Amphitheater along with the reflections of other villains across the multiverse until he was to be defeated by one of the Heroes of Light. Along with the other Roach Chronicles villains, Xarcoh would become a part of a collective organization known as the Thirteen created by the Grandmaster, his past history and powers granting him Rank VI within the group.
After being defeated in battle, Xarcoh falls to his hands and knees as a dark essence emerges from him and materializes in front of the Grandmaster overhead. Standing back up, he watches as his hands begin to slowly fade away; Xarcoh sighs, lamenting on his ultimate fate. As Roach approaches him, Xarcoh solemnly explains that his existence was all but copied from Roach's, and that he was nothing more than a shadow of his former self, left to fade away into nothingness. Roach explains to Xarcoh that he has become far more than a copy of himself and that he was free to dictate his own destiny, something he has been doing this entire time. Xarcoh shakes his head in disagreement, and solemnly replies with "Have I?”, much to Roach's dismay. Despite this, Xarcoh smiles, and commends Roach for his role as a hero of light before fading away for the final time. Of the thirteen Roach Chronicles bosses present in the tournament, Xarcoh was the eleventh boss to be eliminated.[3]
Personality[]
At the time of his creation and the few years that followed, Xarcoh was nigh-emotionless, and could be described as a mere pawn easily swayed by the tumultuous darkness within him. Despite his hollow and seemingly distant nature without feelings, Roach's strong will still lingered within Xarcoh, allowing him to have limited amount of emotions, such as his hatred towards Unit 14 and his caringness towards his allies. After developing a soul of his own during the final battle against Amici as a result of his prolonged exposure to reality outside of Limbo, Xarcoh disregards Echthroi's orders not to fight them, having gained a sense of freedom for the first time in years, though this sensation would be clashed by Echthroi's attempts to telepathically reassert command over Xarcoh. After his defeat by the hands of Amici, Xarcoh, finally understanding what Amici were trying to do, somberly apologizes to them before his physical form faded away to restore Roach, leaving his newborn soul to wander the universes without purpose.
However, while Xarcoh's soul managed to escape the confinements of his original universe, it would ultimately fall victim to darkness like his soulless body once did. After taking residence within the Soul Jar, it would be discovered and manipulated by Richtofen with the use of the Yin Blade prior to being restored with a body. As a result, Xarcoh's now corrupted soul would develop a chaotic neutral personality, commonly siding with the forces of evil while suppressing any other emotions, thus becoming an almost exact copy of himself when he lacked a soul, bar his original self's willpower. While serving under Gruntijackal and later Ataraxia, Xarcoh possessed a level-headed mindset, focusing his attention primarily on carrying out their plans with undying loyalty while simultaneously toying with the heroes that clashed with him for the sake of amusement. Despite his loyalties, Xarcoh always remained watchful of his benefectors' ambitions, and while he grew to fully trust Gruntijackal and Richtofen, he grew more and more suspicious of Ataraxia as the latter became obsessed with finishing his collection of the Infinity Stones at any cost; this would prove crucial for Xarcoh, as his distrust for Ataraxia would allow him to ensure his soul survived certain oblieration from the completed Infinity Gauntlet after Ataraxia betrayed him and the other villains.
As a result of his constant resurrections however, the darkness encroaching his soul would begin to falter, allowing Xarcoh to show his true uncorrupted feelings. When revived during Boss Rush with a reflection body and promised the possibility of being fully revived should be defeat a Hero of Light, Xarcoh became determined to defeat the heroes that fought him, most notably his original self Roach, who he became envious and jealous of for his "wholeness". After being defeated one last time, Xarcoh became saddened but nontheless acceptant to his fate, saying that he knew it would be his ultimate destiny to fade away into nothingness. Xarcoh openly admits that his existence was merely copied from his complete self as Roach, and that he truly never existed as his own entity; nothing more than a shadow of his former glory. When Roach reassures Xarcoh that he has become far more than a copy and that he has the choice to dictate his own destiny, Xarcoh, despite disagreeing, smiles towards Roach, commending him on his role as a hero before fading away.
In the end, Xarcoh was ultimately the closest splinter of Roach that truly resembled the latter. However, as a result of the dark influences of others and the darkness tainting his soul, Xarcoh would be barred of his ability to display other emotions and feelings outside of his corrupted personality and lust for chaotic adventure, and would serve the forces of evil and instill chaos by their side without question.
Appearance[]
Like the other Soulless, Xarcoh wears a black coat, complete with black gloves and boots, as well as having yellow-golden eyes. Despite being the Soulless of Roach, he physically resembles someone else. Biologically, he is the same age as Roach, although he is chronologically far younger.
During his battle in Purge and The Ultimate Trial, as well as when he performs his desperation move in Boss Rush, Xarcoh gains an updated appearance dubbed the "Final Form". Xarcoh's black coat changes; the ends of the sleeves, as well as around the base of the coat, gain purple flame-like hues. Xarcoh's eyes also turn from yellow to dark red, and his entire face becomes shrouded in darkness while his hood is up.
In the Rebirth of Gruntijackal saga, Xarcoh wears a new outfit in order to conceal his identity, which he later replaces with his original black coat after The Omega Key. This outfit consists of a black garb-like robe with a fabricated maroon colored belt around his waist. He also wears black gloves, as well as a black mask in order to conceal his face.

Combat[]
Harbinger[]
By Boss Rush, Xarcoh has a total of twelve different abilities and attacks he can utilize in combat; one physical attack, three ranged attacks, four unique abilities, one unique physical attack, one unique ranged attack, and two ultimate attacks. Over the course of his various boss battles throughout the Roach Chronicles, Xarcoh learns more of his moves over time. Outside of combat, Xarcoh displays various other abilities outside of combat, such materializing the Harbinger in his dominant hand, opening dark corridors for instant fast travel for himself and others, and telekinesis.
Ability | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Barrage | Physical | Xarcoh will perform a flurry of close-range attacks with the Harbinger. He will sometimes finish the attack with a slam, sending out a shockwave that deals damage based on the player's proximity to the center. |
Comet Strike | Ranged | Xarcoh will throw the Harbinger towards the player before summoning it back in his hand. |
Orb Volley | Ranged | Xarcoh will manifest three small blue orbs in his free hand and launch them towards the player in a rapid burst; he will do this a total of three times. These orbs are capable of lowering the player's defense. |
Spatial Flurry | Ranged | Xarcoh will dematerialize the Harbinger with a flick of his wrist before charging both of his hands with blue spatial energy. Xarcoh will proceed to send out various blasts of spatial energy towards the player at random intervals, mixing in purple blasts that will home in on the player. Xarcoh will also perform an aerial version of this attack by levitating above the center of the arena and attacking from there. In both versions of the attack, the purple blasts can be sent back to Xarcoh if the blasts are melee'd back towards him in time to deal extra damage. |
Blink | Unique | Xarcoh will warp away in a blue flash, teleporting to other parts of the arena. |
Blink Rush | Unique Physical | Xarcoh will begin charging towards the player and blink three times in a row before performing a four-hit combo with the Harbinger. He can perform this attack up to three times in a row. |
Shooting Star | Unique Ranged | Xarcoh will charge the Harbinger with blue energy before throwing it towards the player, mirroring his Comet Strike attack. This time however, the Harbinger will quickly blink out of sight once it leaves his hand and immediately appear right in front of the player. If the attack hits, the Harbinger will blink after the hit and follow up with two more blink attacks before returning back to Xarcoh. |
Flechette | Unique | Xarcoh will summon a violet orb in front of him with his free hand. If Xarcoh or the orb is attacked, the orb will absorb most of the incoming damage. After a few seconds, Xarcoh will use the orb to send the absorbed damage back to the player. The amount of damage sent back to the player is determined by how much damage is absorbed by the orb. |
Spatial Heal | Unique | Xarcoh will charge up a blue orb in his free hand and move it in a circular gesture in front of him, which will restore a certain amount of his health; the amount of health restored is dependent on the size of the orb by the time he finishes charging it. The player can attack the orb to shrink its size to try and counter the amount of health Xarcoh regains. |
Fake Out | Unique | Xarcoh will perform his Spatial Heal ability. However, at any point during the charging process, Xarcoh can immediately switch to his Flechette orb, hoping to catch the player off-guard and force them into shooting it more. |
Spatial Windup | Ultimate | Xarcoh will warp to the center of the arena with a blue aura around him. He will charge the Harbinger up with energy before spinning in a clockwise direction, firing a horizontal beam of spatial energy. As the attack continues, Xarcoh will speed up his spin before eventually coming to a stop. During this attack, Xarcoh takes reduced damage. |
Void Gear | Ultimate | Xarcoh will warp to the center of the arena with a purple aura around him. During a brief in-game cutscene, Xarcoh will enter his Final Form. The arena will then be covered by a thick layer of dark fog as Xarcoh blinks away in a red flash. Once the cutscene ends, Xarcoh will blink from within the fog and attack the player with the Harbinger, picking up speed the more successful hits he lands. He will perform this a total of thirteen times before ending the attack with a slam attack with the Harbinger, which will clear the fog from the arena and revert Xarcoh back to his original attire. |
Gauntlet of Ataraxia[]
During The Hands of Destiny and the War of Vengeance sagas, Xarcoh utilizes the Gauntlet of Ataraxia as a weapon in combat as opposed to the Harbinger, though he later reverts back to using the Harbinger in later sagas. While using the gauntlet, Xarcoh has eight abilities and attacks he can utilize in battle; two physical attacks, two ranged attacks, two unique attacks, and two ultimate attacks.
Ability | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Power Punch | Physical | Xarcoh rushes the player and performs a three-hit combo with the gauntlet; the final hit of his combo will knock the player backwards away from him. |
Come On and... | Physical | Xarcoh leaps into the air and slams the gauntlet into the ground, creating a powerful shockwave that expands outward from the impact site. Weapons[]
- Xarcoh's signature weapon is the Harbinger, an ancient sword constructed by the Prophets of the Soulless that ultimately caused Xarcoh's creation. The sword's teeth and head are black with a silver outline and possesses a round, cog-like shape. The handle is silver and the guard has the same coloration and cog-like shape as the teeth. The shaft is predominantly colored in shades of grey and sports a dark grey-colored gear in the center, with two intersecting, black chains wrapped around it. Two more chains are wrapped around the base of the shaft in a similar fashion. Embedded in the hilt is a dull grey cat-like eye that is in reality the Summoning Key, having lost its form after being inserted into the sword. Additionally, there is a larger eye on the head, which is where beams of spatial energy can be fired from.
- During Fall of Destiny, The Final Struggle and Palace of Secrets, Xarcoh utilizes the Gauntlet of Ataraxia after recreating it with the Lamp of Destiny; the Gauntlet of Ataraxia itself is a right-handed gauntlet created by the eponymous being that serves as a first-draft model for the Infinity Gauntlet. The gauntlet takes on a steampunk design, comprised of special metals and materials that allow the gauntlet to harness the three power cores of energy without hurting the user.
